Jason Boland & The Stragglers

Jason Boland & The Stragglers head out on their 25th Anniversary Tour!  For the past 25 years, Jason Boland & the Stragglers have dazzled audiences all over as one of the leading ambassadors of the Oklahoma and Texas music movement. Millions of fans cheering him on, over 500,000 records sold independently and 10 albums later, Boland is a career musician whose legacy continues to grow. From his early days touring in cramped vans and playing in front of tiny bar crowds to the packed venues he performs in today, Boland’s uncompromising approach has grown his profile dramatically, especially in the past handful of years. Add to that the legions of musicians who are influenced by Boland, and his impact on the scene is undeniable.  For most of his career, the only thing you could expect from Boland is to do the unexpected. On what’s now his 10th studio album, he not only does that, but he did it in his own organic and authentic way. He’s making the music he wants while continuing to please the people who want to hear where his artistic journey takes him next. With a catalog like his, that’s no easy feat.

They’ve blazed a singular trail since Nina Diaz joined the band at age 13 and have found champions and comrades along the way including Joan Jett who signed them, Morrissey, Sia, Tegan and Sara, The Pogues and Amanda Palmer who have hand selected them for tours. In addition, Robert Rodriguez asked them to compose one of the key songs for his film Machete. All the while, they have been building one of the most impassioned and diverse fan bases in music. Girl in a Coma are that rare feral band, unaffected by trends, that has managed to stay wild and thrill us at every turn. Their most recent album, Exits & All the Rest, was released in late 2011 on Blackheart Records, and is the most heart-stopping turn yet. The album was named to NPR’s list of Top 50 Albums of 2011 and won the IMA award for Best Indie/Alt Rock Album.

The Original Wailers

The Original Wailers head to Corpus Christi!    In 1974 when Bob Marley went solo, on the brink of international stardom, he surprised the music community by choosing as American born lead guitarist, Al Anderson. It was Anderson’s stunning lead work on such classics as No Woman, No Cry, & Three O’clock Road Block, that first alerted rock fans to the Wailer’s music. Andersons’ musical achievements with Bob Marley & The Wailers include the platinum award winning albums, ‘Live at the Lyceum’, ‘Babylon by Bus’ and ten times platinum album ‘Legend’. The Orignal Wailers received their own Grammy nomination in 2013 for their album ‘Miracle’ making it Andersons’ second Grammy Nomination. Al Anderson is the sole member of the Bob Marley & The Wailers mid – 1970’s lineup in the Original Wailers. The Original Wailers also include Chet Samuel (Lead Vocals / Guitar), Omar Lopez (Bass Guitar), Paapa Nyarkoh (Drums), and Adrian AK Cisneros (Keyboards and Organ) who continue the legacy of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ music.

David Shabani

With special guests Kiya Vance & Moon Jazz.   David Shabani returns to House of Rock for a headlining show after an incredible performance at our 19th Anniversary. His Alternative Hip-Hop, fused with Texas soul and R&B, makes listeners want to keep coming back for more.  Shabani’s sound brings together early 2000s-style hip hop with classic soul and R&B. The lyrics are poignant and optimistic all at once, delivered as fast-paced bars over soulful melodies. The result dually satisfies the late night thrill seeker with club pounding rhythms, and the idle listener with lyrics that flow in a story-like format. Born to Congolese parents in Paris, Shabani immigrated to Canada before launching alternative hip-hop artistry in Texas. Never idle, his sound has taken over stages at home and abroad alongside The Lox, Ashanti, Blxst, Asher Roth, D Smoke, and others with his band, The Nu Leopards, a tribute to his Congolese roots.

Max & Heather Stalling

Meet Max & Heather Stalling, a dynamic duo of singer-songwriters from Dallas, Texas, who bring a distinctive fusion of vocals, lyrics and fiddle playing to the core of Texas and Americana music.   For tonight’s show, they’ll be joined by special guest Ty Dietz!    Max left behind a career as an R&D scientist at Frito Lay to pursue his goals as a singer-songwriter, trading in his lab coat and master’s degree from Texas A&M University for a guitar and the stage. Max has cultivated his sizable and devoted fan base over the course of his more than 20 years of touring, gigging, and hard work; playing pretty much every venue you’ve ever heard of and many you haven’t. A mainstay of the Texas/Red Dirt scene, Max has six studio albums, three live projects, and a history of chart-topping success in Americana radio. His star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi stands as a testament to his enduring impact.    Heather is an award-winning violinist and fiddler. As a child she traveled with her parents while she performed in fiddle contests throughout Texas and surrounding states winning trophies and admirers along the way. At age 18 she was hired into “The Texas Gold Minors” in Branson, Missouri performing 7 days a week for several years. Upon returning to Texas, she was in high demand as a fiddler and played with acts such as Bob Schneider, Cory Morrow, Johnny Lee, The Old 97s and Mark David Manders. Ultimately she formed her own band, blacktopGYPSY, penning the songs, playing fiddle and guitar and singing harmony. “BTG” released two full-length studio albums, toured relentlessly and made fans everywhere they went.    Max and Heather are thrilled to embark on this joint musical journey, sharing their love of music and each other with audiences old and new. Don’t miss the chance to witness their chemistry as they take their show on the road.
